Gavin Brown

Gavin is an Associate Professor in Financial Economics within The Future Economies Research Centre at Manchester Metropolitan University. His research focuses on The Future of Money. In particular the effects of FinTech, Blockchain and Cryptocurrencies. He specialises in tokenomics and the commerciality of blockchain technologies including their persistence in future business models and platforms. His latest research focuses upon the determinants of stablecoin pricing and optimal design. Gavin is a Fellow of The ICAEW as a chartered accountant. He is listed on the FCA’s Financial Services Register. He is also a Co-Founder and Non Executive Director of a London based cryptocurrency hedge fund. From September 2017 to date Gavin has performed 104 media engagements reaching an audience of c. 60 million people and commanding an equivalent advertising value (EAV) of over £1.8m. Gavin has been an invited keynote speaker at; The House of Lords, The Isle of Man Government, The University of Oxford, The University of Manchester, HMRC, The Bank of England, H.M. Treasury, The Civil Service and CASS Business School He is a published author having written a book entitled 'Algorithms, Blockchain & Cryptocurrency' with Emerald Publishing. Gavin is a thought leader in the world of cryptocurrencies with a significant media profile. He has been interviewed by live T.V. (BBC & CNBC) and radio (BBC Radio 4, 5 & Cumbria). He has also written many articles and provided media commentary for leading national newspapers, including; The Daily Telegraph, The Comversation, The Independent, The Financial Times, The Times, The Metro, Yahoo Finance, The Sunday Times, Forbes Magazine, The ICAEW and The Daily Express. He has also provided industry talks for Credit Suisse, Bank of China, JP Morgan, American Express, The Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce and HSBC in London, New York, Singapore and online. Gavin has provided keynote speeches at conferences including The European Blockchain Expo 2019 in Amsterdam and The A.I. & Blockchain Summit 2019 in Malta. Furthermore, Gavin is an invited keynote speaker at the forthcoming Northern Economic Summit in the U.K. alongside the Greater Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham & MP's including Lisa Nandy. Gavin is a founder member of the DLT (Distributed Ledger Technology) Academia Working Group led by The British Business Federation Authority (BBFA), Est 2018. Gavin holds both a Bachelors & MSc degree in Business Management as well as an MBA from the University of Oxford (Said Business School) where he was a Dean's List Member.
