Overview

The Beacon Chain doesn't change anything about the Ethereum we use today. It will coordinate the network. It introduces proof-of-stake to the Ethereum ecosystem. You might know this as "Phase 0" on technical roadmaps. The Beacon Chain will conduct or coordinate the expanded network of shards and stakers. But it won't be like the Ethereum mainnet of today. It can't handle accounts or smart contracts.
